Running a business in an expensive city like Singapore is never an easy journey. When we first pivoted from JC Travel to JC Health on March 1, 2024, we knew we were stepping into a challenging path. But our mission was clear: to craft and provide daily wellness and home exercise solutions that truly serve the prevention and fitness needs of our aging population.
From our very early days at a weekend bazaar back in December 2023, the positive responses from local seniors warmed our hearts. They were so incredibly grateful to find someone designing products explicitly for their needs—whether it was a cushion to ease back pain or a compact home exerciser designed perfectly for an HDB layout to keep their muscles strong and independent. Over the last two years, we worked hard to learn the ropes of online marketplaces like Shopee, Lazada, and Amazon, earning wonderful reviews from our customers along the way.
But deep down, we always knew our true calling was to be right there on the ground, deeply integrated into the patient recovery journey.
An Unexpected Door Opens
On April 16, an email landed in our inbox from the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS). They were organizing a public forum titled "Surgery for Failing Heart" on May 16, 2026, and invited us to support it.
I remembered my time studying for my ACE Personal Trainer certification back in 2022. It had been incredibly tough to read and interpret the complex medical terminology surrounding various chronic diseases. I learned back then how complicated post-discharge exercise programming can be, and how carefully rehab tools must be chosen for patients transitioning from hospital to home.
Knowing that prevention is always better than cure, and seeing how perfectly our catalog fits the forum's theme, we didn't hesitate for a second. The auditorium was completely packed out with about 150 people—they even had to bring out extra seats at the back of the hall. During the forum, the doctors emphasized a point that resonated deeply with my soul: post-discharge home exercise, proper sitting support, and restorative sleep are absolutely critical to a heart patient's recovery journey. In that moment, I felt our entire vision at JC Health was recognized and validated.
The lighthearted highlight of the day was the grand prize draw. Our "Stronger Hands & Legs" bundle box is a heavy-duty 11kg setup. On Monday morning, I received a phone call from the grand prize winner. She explained that she is a single lady in her 70s, living alone, and currently feeling too weak to figure out how to transport that heavy 11kg box back from the NHCS venue. Helpless and unsure of what to do, she contacted NHCS, who kindly guided her to reach out to us directly. She was also worried about how to assemble the machines.
As a business, shipping a pre-assembled machine poses a major problem, as it no longer fits securely into its protective box for transit. But when we considered her situation, we chose to put our hearts before our logistics. We knew exactly how terrifying it feels for a vulnerable senior to feel physically weak and helpless with a heavy package.
We immediately took action:
We opened a brand-new manual mini bike directly from our store inventory, pre-assembled it fully for her, and packed it securely into a specialized express shipping bag.
For the advanced, touch-screen Electric Mini Elliptical, we kept it safely in its original factory padding to protect the motor. We gave her a call, gently explaining that she would only need to tighten four simple screws for the foot pedals, and promised to send her a step-by-step video guide. We assured her our team would be on standby via phone to guide her through every single step.
This morning, the packages were officially handed over to Singapore Post for direct delivery. Soon after, she sent us a beautiful message:
"The world would be a much better place if it has more kind people like your goodself... May GOD BLESS you ALWAYS!"
